Dubai has begun construction on a $35 billion terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, claiming it will be the world's largest.
Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved designs for a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, costing AED 128 billion ($34.85 billion). The airport, expected to handle 260 million passengers annually, is five times the size of Dubai International Airport.
However, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority's Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum plans to complete the first phase of a 150 million passenger airport within 10 years, replacing Dubai International Airport, which can only handle 120 million passengers annually due to its central location.
