Experts expect a mild winter in South Africa, attributed to the ongoing El Niño climate pattern.
El Niño-related climate is characterized by above-average temperatures and below-average rainfall throughout the November-April season.
Doctor Peter Johnston, a climate scientist, told the SABC that the country expects warmer temperatures and less rain in some areas this winter.
El Niño causes warm air and seas, resulting in a warmer winter than usual.
However, "It doesn't mean every day is going to be warmer, and it doesn't mean every single month over winter is going to be warmer, but generally speaking, the forecasts are showing that the temperatures in South Africa over winter will be warmer than normal."
