The SABC argues that the State Security Agency's vetting is routine, but media watchdogs have cried foul.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has denied allegations that Moshoeshoe Monare, the broadcaster's news and current affairs executive, is being targeted by the State Security Agency (SSA) following an audio recording of ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa threatening to challenge media outlets.
However, the SABC, a national key point area, requires a screening procedure for all group executives, including Mr Monare, who was appointed in 2022 but failed to complete the required security vetting procedures, instead submitting a Z204 security clearance form in October 2022.
