WADA has requested an independent prosecutor to assess the handling of a case involving 23 Chinese swimmers who tested positive for a prescription cardiac medicine.
WADA plans to send a compliance audit team to China to assess China's anti-doping program.
The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has criticized WADA's announcement of an independent probe, describing it as a "potential cover-up" and labeling the situation "self-serving."
WADA has requested former Swiss public prosecutor Eric Cottier to investigate their handling of the CHINADA case, accusing them of bias in favor of China.
WADA president Witold Banka defended the accusations, stating they are rejecting false accusations and seeking an experienced prosecutor.
Swiss lawyer Cottier is tasked with assessing bias, interference, and impropriety in a case involving food contamination.
However, it is clear that he will also evaluate the reasonableness of not opposing or appealing the CHINADA finding, which found the cases contained food contamination.
